Our specially crafted BBQ sauce and spice blend that make this dish so unique will soon be available for purchase!
The Magic Behind the Recipe
Our Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork starts with a high-quality pork shoulder, which is then bathed in a marinade that’s both unique and bursting with the complex sweetness of Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce, perfectly balanced with the savoury depth of our custom spice blend.
Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork Recipe (Per Pound of Pork Shoulder)
Ingredients:
- 1 pound pork shoulder
- 1 tablespoon custom Dr. Pepper spice blend
- 1/4 cup Dr. Pepper BBQ Sauce (plus extra for serving)
- 1/4 cup Dr. Pepper soda
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- Optional: Additional salt and pepper to taste
Cooking Instructions:
Prepare the Pork:
- Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
- Rub the pork shoulder all over with the custom spice blend.
Prepare the Cooking Liquid:
- In a roasting pan, combine the Dr. Pepper soda, apple cider vinegar, and 1/4 cup of your homemade Dr. Pepper BBQ Sauce.
Roast the Pork:
- Place the seasoned pork in the roasting pan. Cover tightly with foil or a lid.
- Roast in the preheated oven, calculating about 1 to 1.5 hours per pound, or until the pork is tender enough to shred easily with a fork.
Shred and Serve:
- Remove the pork from the oven and let it rest for about 20 minutes.
- Shred the pork using two forks, discarding any excess fat.
- Skim off any excess fat from the cooking liquids. Mix the shredded pork back with the pan juices and an additional 1/4 cup of Dr. Pepper BBQ Sauce for extra flavour.
- Serve hot, with additional BBQ sauce on the side if desired.
Tips for Perfect Pulled Pork:
- Low and Slow: The key to tender pulled pork is cooking it at a low temperature for a long time. Patience is your friend here.
- Let it Rest: Allow your cooked pork shoulder to rest for at least 20 minutes before shredding to help it retain more juices, making your pulled pork even more succulent.
- Keep it Moist: Ensure there’s enough Dr. Pepper in the pan; it should at least come halfway up the meat.
- Slow Cooker: you can also do this in your slow cooker.
How to Serve:
- Casual Gatherings: Pulled pork sliders are perfect for any party – fun, easy to eat, and utterly delicious.
- Family Dinners: For a more traditional meal, serve the pulled pork over creamy mashed potatoes or alongside your favorite side dishes.
- At our trailer, we serve the pulled pork heaped on a brioche bun topped with our crisp coleslaw and drizzled with our Dr. Pepper BBQ Sauce, or bun-free for a lighter option. Don’t miss our popular Pulled Pork Nachos, drizzled with the same BBQ sauce, our homemade nacho cheese, and a dollop of sour cream.
